The Indigenous Youth Work Exchange Program (IYWEP) is currently seeking an Assistant Fisheries Technician to participate in aquatic research studies at Harkness Laboratory of Fisheries Research in Algonquin Provincial Park. The successful candidate may participate in some or all of the following tasks:
- Netting index surveys, angler creel surveys, biological sampling of fish, water quality monitoring, aquatic habitat assessment, lake depth mapping, field equipment maintenance/repair, and computer data entry
- Operation of boats, outboard motors, canoes, and other specialized equipment may be required
- Participation in other ecosystem research projects in Algonquin Park to gain a variety of experience, e.g. wildlife surveys, species at risk surveys, etc.
- Working outdoors in diverse weather conditions and overnighting in remote areas
- The candidate will assist in projects that are in collaboration with a First Nation, Inuit or Metis Community.

- • eligible to work in Canada
- • a student
- • a person who self-identify as an Indigenous (First Nation, Inuit or Métis)
- • 15 years of age or older
Program Highlights:
- • Rate of pay: 40 hours per week at $18.45/h
- • Minimum 8 weeks, with the possibility of 16 weeks (May-Aug) depending on applicant availability.
- • Accommodations are available at Harkness Lab on Lake Opeongo, Algonquin Park
