Assistant Manager (Seasonal)
Algonquin Wildlife Research Station, Algonquin Provincial Park
Location: Algonquin Wildlife Research Station, Algonquin Provincial Park
Contract: Late April – early October (approximately)
Salary: $16.50 per hour, 40 hours per week (accommodations and meals provided)

Responsibilities of the Assistant Manager include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining buildings, research areas, and equipment (e.g. repairs, renovations, plumbing, construction, painting, cleaning, brush removal, trail maintenance, etc.)
- Providing logistical support for research projects and field courses
- Opening and winterizing seasonal buildings and equipment
- Working with the Manager to ensure efficient operations in all aspects of the research station, including health and safety
- Assist Manager in organizing special events, such as Meet the Researcher Day and workshops
- Supervising staff and researchers while Manager is off-site
- Supervising volunteers and project participants
Other qualifications should include:
- Mechanical aptitude
- Strong interpersonal and organization skills
- Ability to work independently, and as a team
- Strong leadership skills
- An appreciation for the outdoors
- Strong work ethic
- Willing to work outside in varied weather conditions
- Valid G Driver’s License with clean driving record
- Current First Aid is preferred
- Ability to drive manual transmission vehicle is considered an asset
- Chainsaw operators certification or other workplace certifications would be considered an asset

Responsibilities of the Assistant Cook include, but are not limited to:
• Preparation of nutritionally balanced meals for 15–40+ people, including for omnivore, vegetarian, and allergy restricted diets
• Assisting Head Cook with menu planning and placing wholesale orders
• Cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining Cookhouse facilities in accordance with Safe Food Handling protocols and COVID-19 policies
• Ensuring that food is properly stored
• Monitoring and maintenance of food and supplies inventory
• Assisting with opening/closing of seasonal kitchen facilities
• Collaborate with the Head Cook and the Station Manager to ensure efficient and safe operation of the Cookhouse
Preferred qualifications include:
• Safe Food Handling Certificate
• Experience with food handling and preparation
• Knowledge of cooking “from scratch” with bulk ingredients
• Basic culinary knowledge and knowledge of products
• Knowledge of food safety guidelines
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Experience in large quantity cooking is considered an asset
• Current First Aid and CPR certificates are considered assets
