I am pleased to inform you that the 2023-2024 Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk (AFSAR) Call for Proposals is now open.

Established in 2004, AFSAR provides funding to support projects aimed at developing the capacity of Indigenous organizations and communities to participate in the recovery of species at risk, protection of their habitat, and in preventing other species from becoming a conservation concern.

Attached you will find the following documents:

1)    AFSAR 2023-2024 National Call for Proposals

2)    AFSAR 2023-2024 Application Guidelines

3)    AFSAR 2023-2024 EOI form

To apply to the AFSAR program, please send EOIs and/or proposals to DFO.AfsarOpr-FaepRop.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the attached application guidelines and program priorities. I further strongly encourage you to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). The EOI is not a mandatory requirement but it will give you the opportunity to receive feedback on your proposal to verify that it is aligned with program priorities and expected results.

The deadline to submit an EOI is: November 14, 2022.

The deadline to submit proposals is: December 16, 2022.

(Please note: This call applies to aquatic species only [fish and mussels]. Applicants wishing to apply for terrestrial AFSAR projects should visit Environment and Climate Change Canada AFSAR program website for more information, or contact the appropriate ECCC regional coordinator.)

To find out if you have aquatic species at risk or which species may be present in your area, use the aquatic species at risk map.

Thank you for your interest in contributing to the recovery of aquatic species at risk.
