Newletter from Turtle Lodge

Kwey Kwey, Aaniin, Boozhoo!
The Circle of Turtle Lodge is excited to announce a new way of reviving, promoting and restoring Anishinaabe culture with you in the form of Virtual Circle Talks. These Virtual Circle Talks will be held on ZOOM. You can find the list of these talks and instructions on how to sign up at the end of this message.

Much like “in-person” Circle Talks, Virtual Circle Talks introduce a skill/concept/story and/or a Teaching as presented by one of our members. The difference is that we meet on ZOOM. And just like a traditional Circle Talk, at the end of each Virtual CircleTalk everyone will have a chance to pass around the “virtual” talking stick and share a personal reflection on what has been learned.

Chii miigwetch for all our members who have so generously offered to share what they know. We couldn’t have these talks without you!

Here is the schedule for the next four weeks (expect another schedule for the rest of June to arrive in your mailbox the first week of June):

Wednesday, May 12th 7-9pm – Make a Mouth Bow with Sarah Yankoo
Learn about mouth bows and how to make one (you will need to provide your own materials from the list given at time of registration)

Wednesday, May 19th 7-8pm – Intro the Hand Drumming with Michele Gaudry and Trevor Pearce part 1
Begin (or refresh) your drumming journey. Drumming protocols will also be shared.

Wednesday, May 26th 7-8pm – Intro the Hand Drumming with Michele Gaudry and Trevor Pearce part 2
Begin (or refresh) your drumming journey. Drumming protocols will also be shared.

Saturday, June 5th 1-2:30 – The Migration Story with Aimee Bailey
Learn about the Anishinaabe Migration Story and how it shows our connections to other Indigenous nations.

To obtain the ZOOM links for any or all of these events, or to ask any questions please email the CTL Virtual Circle Talks organizer, Leigh Miller, using the following address: leigh_k_m@hotmail.com. Miigwetch.

We hope these Virtual Circle Talks will offer our members a new way to learn our cultural traditions and have fun together as a community. Let’s connect through these talks and help keep our culture and community bright!

Madjashin!
