The Algonquin Forestry Authority (AFA) is seeking Tree Markers & Surveyors for the 2020 season. The AFA is the Ontario Crown agency responsible for sustainable forest management in Algonquin Provincial Park. Our responsibilities include harvesting and distribution of wood products to mills in communities adjacent to the Park, as well as forest management planning, silviculture and compliance monitoring.

Approximate Start Date: May 2020
Contract Duration: 26 Weeks (With possibility of extension)
Salary: $16.26-$21.49 (commensurate with experience
Tree Marker(s) – working as part of a crew on tree marking projects in Algonquin Park Forest. Other projects such as silviculture layout and contractor supervision may also be assigned.
The candidates should have demonstrated skills including dendrology, aerial photo interpretation, map reading and knowledge of the silvics of Great Lakes/St. Lawrence tree species. Tree marking certification and valid Ontario driver’s license preferred.
Successful applicants are required to work in inclement weather and walk on uneven terrain, with exposure to dust, heavy equipment, biting insects, bears and poison ivy at project sites. The work will often require staying in bunkhouse trailers in remote locations during the work week. Lodging and food or meal allowance is provided when crews are in the field.
